Data-Led Intuition:
From validation to prediction
Back in 2015, this was about supplementing the sharp instincts of professionals with market research and data to arrive at unbiased insights. Data was used as a magnifying glass to navigate the market.
Now, data’s role has qualitatively changed from merely checking results to driving foresight. While the original goal was always to find the best path, today's systems not only confirm the terrain in real-time, but also predict where the path will lead next.
Once used largely for post-event review or to track ‘what happened’, data has become a strategic engine that drives proactive prediction and the validation of hypotheses. Historical data remains essential, but the most valuable data is now considered to be first-party data and behavioural, forward-looking data. AI models are being used to forecast demand, optimise procurement, and align production with market needs.
While intuition remains key, its role has shifted towards guiding strategic direction, whereas tactical execution must be rigorously grounded in robust data. However, the biggest ongoing challenge is ensuring that highly trained humans are available to interpret the flood of data correctly, preventing it from simply becoming distracting noise.
