Nationally, 58% of people in India lost income during the pandemic. The majority of those impacted experienced a temporary loss of hours or wage.
Of the 58% of people who lost work, left work or experienced reduced wages during the pandemic, 49% have returned to their same job or something similar, but 20% remain unemployed. When looking at education specifically, 17% of those with a university degree remain unemployed compared to 32% of those without a degree.
Most parents (64%) in India reported their children have done all at-home learning, and only 4% report their children have done no at-home learning.
Parents of children who have done some in-home schooling claim their biggest academic concern is the social impact (34%). For those with children who have not, 45% have no concerns.
For Indian consumers, 22% claim to be shopping for clothing in-store today. When asked about intentions once a vaccine is widely distributed, 30% say they plan to do most of their clothing shopping in-store – an 8% increase, similar to grocery (7%) and household goods (7%).
During the pandemic, some products or brands were challenging to find on demand, causing forced brand trials. For Indian consumers, 66% claimed they were forced to trial a new grocery product brand, such as a flour or pasta brand. When asked if they have already or would return to their original brand choice, 91% said “yes”, while 9% said "no".
On average, 82% of people in India claim they will probably or definitely receive the COVID-19 vaccine when it’s been made available to them. The probability rate, however, varies significantly when looking education. For example, 84% of those have university degrees report they will likely be vaccinated, versus only 69% without a degree.
The majority of those who are not likely to receive the vaccine, 29% say the want more information before they decide.
The top two most trusted sources for people in India about the vaccine are reported to be the government (44%) and health authorities in the country (42%).
When asked how satisfied with government and health authorities vaccination campaigns they were, 84% of consumers reported they were at least somewhat satisfied.
