Looking ahead to after the pandemic, the greatest concern for travellers, reported by 36% respondents, is being stranded if further lockdown restrictions are re-introduced whilst they are travelling. These concerns are gravest for Chinese (49%), Singaporean (45%) and French (41%) respondents.
The secondary concern is needing to have had the vaccination and/ or be tested for COVID-19 to travel, 36% globally and highest in Brazil and Singapore (41%).
Whilst price inflation is a concern for 28% of those we surveyed, The US is the only country to report price inflation as their primary concern. 34% of US respondents have concerns over price-inflation, compared to a low of 16% in Germany and China.
Exploring cost in more detail, globally 37% report that they would not be willing to pay a premium for travel and the same number would be willing to do so for proof of vaccination or testing.
Correlating with concerns around price, almost 2 in 3 US respondents (61%) state they would not be willing to pay a premium, closely followed by just over half of UK respondents (53%).
Respondents from India (59%) and Mainland China (54%) are most willing to pay for proof of vaccination or testing.
Travel Insurance aligns with concerns of being stranded due to the re-introduction of restrictions with 35% respondents stating this as something they would pay a premium for. Fifty-four percent (54%) Singaporeans cited insurance as the number one thing they would pay a premium for.
Looking at activities post-COVID, the overwhelming trend reported by respondents is that frequency will be about the same as it was before the pandemic.
Indoor tourist attractions (30%), Recreation parks (28%) and Eating out (27%) show the biggest declines. Fifty-one percent (51%) of Indians plan to eat out less.
For German respondents the activity they plan to reduce the most is ordering in, with 27% reporting they will do less of this post-pandemic.
Exercise has the highest increase, with 34% of respondents reporting they will do more post-pandemic. The steepest inclines in exercise are for Brazil (58%) and India (50%).
