I am delighted to introduce the latest edition of our PUBLIC Journal which focuses on the critical topic of public health.
COVID-19 has undoubtedly impacted every aspect of our lives – from how we work, socialise, shop and travel. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to wreak havoc around the world and our thoughts are particularly with our friends and colleagues in countries hardest hit by the virus.
As the pandemic broke out in March 2020, our public evidence and advisory teams around the world were at the forefront of understanding the immediate social and economic impacts of the virus, supporting policymakers across a wide range of critical policy responses.
Now, our global community supported by our robust data infrastructure, continue to monitor, understand, and advise our clients on the wider impacts of the pandemic.
For example, in this edition of PUBLIC, you’ll read about our research into devastating delays on health diagnosis and treatments. Our recent multi-country study shows that 4 out of 10 people have experienced delayed or cancelled treatments as a result of COVID.
It also highlights the negative impact on our mental health and collective wellbeing, which has hit the younger generation the hardest: over a third reported a negative impact on their wellbeing.
You’ll also read about the dangerous spread of disinformation and misinformation in an excellent interview with Tim Nguyen from the World Health Organization.
But I hope you’ll also take away a message of hope as we look to provide recommendations for a more positive future and how to use this pandemic as a springboard for change.
As a way of addressing inequalities in our healthcare systems, utilising behavioural science and communications to support those who are vulnerable or disengaged in our communities. And the power of evidence to inform efforts to build resilience to dis- and misinformation.
This is just a snapshot of the breadth of work we’ve been doing for governments and public health authorities and organisations. If you have any questions about how we are advising clients on the next generation of public health policies, don’t hesitate to contact us.
So, as we look to rebuild and recover from this devastating crisis, I would like to thank our clients around the world who have entrusted us with critical work contributing to protecting people’s lives and improving health outcomes.
I look forward to a long future of collaboration as we continue to help transform public health ecosystems and promote wellness.
