How consumers are reducing environmental impacts in everyday life
Despite all circumstances, Latin Americans are trying to do their best. So much so that 33% of people said they were upset with how much plastic they buy on a shopping trip.
There is also a significant growth in the number of individuals who avoid buying any plastic product, soaring from 29% in 2023 to 36% in 2024.
In this context, it is important to highlight Chile’s leadership. The country, which has always appeared at the forefront of sustainability, is increasingly committed to reducing plastic waste compared to the world. About 33% of the population says they avoid plastic packaging, 50% use recyclable cups, and 65% use returnable bottles. Worldwide, these numbers are 29%, 44% and 62%, respectively.
It is worth noting that shoppers in the region are also taking simple everyday actions. For example, 70% of people already use their own reusable bags to shop, and 47% prefer paper packaging.
